Customer Review
As you search the web for the most reliable accounts and experiences of the most mundane products, you can come across a convincing argument for the innovative technology in software, to something so ordinary as the sturdiness and durability of paper towels.  The same will go for almost any product you can imagine. Log into Amazon and be amazed by the millions of options you will encounter. When beginning this journey you may expect to find reliable reviews, but may often be faced with unrealistic, critical, and or, hostile ones. In the end, you will need to use your intuition to discern them and use the most convincing as your guide for choosing your product.
A typical audience for an Amazon review is a consumer, probably belonging to the American middle class, who is interested in the quality of a product and wants feedback on other buyer’s opinion and experiences with the particular product. The reviews include a general idea, a star rating from one to five stars, and then a more detail description of the merchandise.
Something you would never expect to find in an Amazon review is satire, especially of a product so odd for this sort of literary device as milk. As you search for Tuscan Dairy Whole Vitamin D Milk, you will encounter thousands of hilarious reviews making a parody of this product. As you scroll down you will find anything from made up narratives to dialogue, to parodies of poems like “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost. All of which use as their muse, the legendary Tuscan Dairy Whole Vitamin D Milk.
The parody of Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven” is by far the most genius review posted. From diction, to rhyme the author makes sure to convey the original style of this iconic poem while plaguing it with the humor and irony. From the very first verse you are presented with the mockery: “Once upon a mid-day sunny, while I savored Nuts 'N Honey, With my Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 gal, 128 fl. oz., I swore”.
The mockery continues by imitating the original poem’s use of imagery. From the auditory “As I went on with my lapping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at the icebox door.”, to the visual and tactile “And the pool so white and silky, filled me with a sense of milky.” It is witty for any reader to see such a somber poem transformed into the ridicule of milk. This review is obviously not tailored to the traditional Amazon customer, who is looking for an honest review about a product. It is intended for a younger more humoristic audience who is looking to laugh about a satiric made up review about something so ordinary as Tuscan Dairy Vitamin D Whole Milk.

  1. Great first paragraph/intro! You also do a good job of describing the typical audience of an Amazon product review in your second paragraph, and you also address the elements typical to the review genre.

Wonderful job identifying the genre of (and inspiration for) your chosen review! Excellent literary analysis.
